1. What if we need more for a special occasions or for preserving?

If you choose farm pickup we offer free extras (2nds and overpicks) when available. You can also purchase items at 10% off at any of our farmers markets.

2. How much is in one share?

It should contain 20-40 servings each week depending on the time of the season. A vegetarian family who rarely eats out may need more than the "weekend gourmet" will.  For this reason we cannot say how many people one share may feed.  Additional shares may be added at anytime during the season at a prorated amount.

3. Are there flowers every week and is there an extra charge?

There will be flowers every week that they are available. Generally the first few weeks and the last few weeks flowers are unavailable. There is no extra charge for flowers. Every member will receive flowers!

4. Do you take credit cards?

At this time no. We have not found a system that is cost effective. We do take cash or check.

5. What happened to the full share and half share?

In the past we offered two sizes of Harvest Boxes. Over 90% of members wanted a half share, so we discontinued the full share and made all our shares into what we used to call half shares.

6. How long is your season?

Our season runs 18 weeks, the week of June 16 through the week of October 13.

7. Can I pick which items I receive?

We are not a delivery service, but  a working farm. We grow everything in its season and pick it at its best. The share is a balanced mix of what the farm has available in the field on that particular week.  Our members tell us they love getting surprised each week, and they enjoy trying things they wouldn't otherwise have tried.

8. Can members visit the farm?

Of course you can choose farm pickup and you can visit the farm every week. We will have an open farm day every year on the 1st Sunday in June from 11-5 and the first Monday in June from noon until 6pm.  All harvest box members and friends of the farm are invited.  We don't discourage other visits but please keep in mind that we attend markets three days a week. On the other days we are picking produce and getting your bags and boxes together! Needless to say we are very, very busy. Please call first for a visit.

9. How do I pick up my Harvest Box?

For farm pickups the first day may be the only difficult one. We will be here to show you where to go and what to do. Market pickups are as easy as finding our booth and getting our attention. Intel pickups are different for each campus and cafeteria. Generally the bags will be found in a Bon Appetit cooler and you just help yourself. NIKE pickups will have a designated place and time set up in advance.  NE Portland pickups will be for one hour at the park.  Specific instructions will be sent for each pickup site before the season starts.

10. What happens if we are out of town on distribution day?

We suggest you have a friend/ relative/ neighbor pick up your share. We cannot give refunds because we've planted months earlier. We can on occasion change drop off points for you, however, this has been becoming increasingly difficult for us. We suggest having someone else pick it up for you.

11. What are we doing during the months we are not delivering produce?

The work never completely stops on Sun Gold farm. We will clean and prepare the fields as much as possible before winter sets in. All the planning of crop rotations and seed purchasing has to be done. Repair work on equipment for the next season. Fine tuning Vicki's Harvest Box program for another year and honestly, we take a vacation! Hopefully somewhere warm.

12. How much does it cost to become a member?

Harvest box sign ups are closed.   Below are the prices for the 2008 season.

1 Harvest Box: Postmarked on or before May 1st, $324
18 weeks for $18.00 per week

After May 1st, $360

18 weeks for $20.00 per week

13. What happened to the boxes?

In the past we have used boxes to bring you your produce. We found this confusing and hard to keep up with for us and the share holders. We will be trying some strong handled paper bags that will be reusable or recyclable.

14. Can I pick up my harvest box at Intel, NIKE or Columbia even though I do not work there?

We only drop boxes off at the cafeteria inside the Intel, Nike and Columbia campuses. With the tight security at these campuses it is impossible for non employees to go inside. You have to be an employee or a contractor to pick up at Intel, NIKE or Columbia.

15. What if I can no longer receive a Harvest Box?

The harvest box program is prepaid early in the season so that we can better prepare for the harvest. Each person is counted on to take their share for the full season. No refunds can be given because your share is already planted, being weeded, watered and cared for until it is ready for you.

16. When can I sign up?

The 2008 sign up period has begun!

17. How do I sign up?

Click here to go to our sign up page. Please print and send this with your check to the address listed. You will receive an email notification from Vicki letting you know that we have received your information.

18. Can the sign up forms be sent in on May 1st and still get the earlier price?

Yes, as long as the letters are postmarked on or before May 1st we will gladly accept them.

19. How do I get my newsletter?

You will receive your newsletter and recipes via email.  Please provide us with a good, legible address on your sign up form.  If you want additional addresses to receive the newsletters please write these in as well.  There is no additional charge.

20. What if I miss my pick up time?

We can not bring it to another pickup point.  We have over 600 members and it is impossible to change so many pick up points.  We have planted, grown, picked, washed, packaged, and delivered your share to the place it was requested to be at.  Your share will be distributed to the Oregon Food Bank and will not go to waste.
